Below 的用法

一、介词 below 表示方位、数值等“在……下面”、“低于……”之意

1. The sun sinks (或 disappears, goes) below the horizon. 太阳沉落（或消失）在地平线下。
2. Once the yield was below the average. 产量一度低于平均值。
3. It is four degrees below zero now. 现在零下四度。
4. The pressure causes the ice to melt at a temperature slightly below 0℃. 加压能使冰在微低于 0℃ 的温度下融化。
5. This is below consideration. 这是不值得考虑的。
6. Most of the energy we use come from below the ground in the form of coal, oil and gas. 我们使用的大部分能量系以煤、石油和煤气形式出现，都来自地下。（介词短语 below the ground 作介词 from 的宾语。）
7. a. Sign your name below the line. 请在横线下方签名。
   b. The temperature fell (或 dropped) below zero. 温度降到零度以下。
8. You are below her in computer programming. 你的计算机程序设计不如她。
9. A major is below a general. 少校低于将军。
10. There is water about two meters below the surface. 地面下约两米有水。
11. She lives in the flat below ours. 她住在我们下面的那套单元房子里。（并不是指她住在我们住的单元房子的垂直下方。）

注：注意 below 在方位上仅表示位置低于所提及的事物，而 under 则表示处于垂直线的下面。例如：

1) The river below the bridge is ten meters deep. 桥下这条河有 10 米深。
2) The river under the bridge is ten meters deep. 桥下的河（指桥身正下方的河水）有 10 米深。

二、副词 below 作“在下”讲，注意可做状语、后置定语和宾语用

1. The working conditions of this device are given below. 这种装置的操作条件如下所述。（副词作状语。）
2. Most uses of multimedia computers will be dealt with below. 多媒体计算机的大多数用途将在下面予以讨论。（副词作状语。）
3. When a beaker of water is heated from below the water at the bottom becomes less dense (assuming it is above 4℃) and rises. 当从下面对一烧杯的水加热时，烧杯底部的水，其密度较小（假定在 4℃ 以上），就往上升。（below 副词作介词 from 的宾语。）
